LFW Day#5: Alice Palmer
WHERE: Vauxhall Fashion Scout @ Freemason’s Hall
FRONT ROW: Courtney, Laura and Lucy from Forward PR, Phoebe Frangoul, Kelly Morris from Running in Heels, the Masquerade magazine team.
WHAT: Alice Palmer’s signature quirky knitwear dresses were taken to the next level with her AW11 collection ‘Into the Void’. Set to an electronic soundtrack, a kind of ying and yang black and white duality kept the looks strong and unified. With gold as an accent colour, there was a robotic glitzy vibe undermined by messy thick kohl eyeliner. The oversized, slouchy shapes were layered with three-dimensional textures; conical, triangular fabric jutted out on the front of the frocks and spherical cutouts gaped to reveal the small of the back. These heavily textured layers caused undulating hemlines and abstract shapes, subverting the idea of simple knitwear. Deep, deep plunge dresses provided the perfect antithesis to the chalk and ink ponchos (your typical winter cover-up gone haute). The workmanship of these pieces was undeniably stunning.
HIGHLIGHT: Quite possibly the whole show from the soundtrack to the styling. We love these knitted dresses – so chic, so warm, so perfect for AW11!
QUOTES: Fashion Monitor tweeted ‘Monochrome and gold knits are the order of the day at Alice Palmer with cool twisted hairstyling by @toniandguyuk‘ and @Bumpkinbetty tweeted ‘Mark who? Alice palmer is the new knit kid on the block!’
